Counted among the better-planned malls in the city, Inorbit Mall Malad, with its 5-lakh sq. ft. of retail area was opened in 2004 in order to meet the demands of upcoming urban lifestyles in the area. A subsidiary of the K. Raheja Corporation, Inorbit Mall Malad was also the first shopping mall to open under the Inorbit umbrella, following which Inorbit Malls in different locations like Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune to name a few also opened.
Apart from housing premium shopping brands, the mall has 26 restaurants with the food court spread over 12,000 sq. ft, seating 800 people at a time. The restaurants at Inorbit Malad are so sought after that even at 11pm in the night the food court looks as crowded as 8pm in any other mall. During sports events such as the Indian Premier League, the mall installs large screens in the food court for their customers. There is also a gaming arcade, an outdoor space for net cricket, and Segway rides for hire at the mall.
Contributing to a Green India, the mall in 2008 was retrofitted for energy efficiency by Johnson Controls Inc. under the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI).
